BIO
The artist, Marilyn “Tiya DK” Kirby was born in the islands, and at the age of 5 moved to the United States. Tiya explored her creativity and found her niche before the age of 13 by utilizing her imaginative ideas on canvas. Painting became a therapeutic activity that nurtured her myriad identities and helped her blossom. Without any formal art training, Tiya has developed her own distinctive style that highlights bold and vibrant colors, as well as shapes and curves. Most of her work is abstract acrylic paint on large canvases. She uses her paint brushes, fingers, and diverse mediums to give selections of her work a 3-D effect. Tiya has shown her work at venues, including but not limited to the Library of Congress (Washington, DC), and The Wing Luke Museum (Seattle, WA), PG County, MD (featured artist), and multiple other venues. For additional information on her showcases, please click on her art resume and visit www.tiyadk.com.
In November 2013, a tragedy occurred in the Kirby Family that involved Tiya’s father’s life, Dr. Ronald F. Kirby, being taken away unspeakably, and violently. During her process of profound mourning, Tiya learned to transform her sadness into creativity, and heal through her painting. In this new chapter of her life, she has dedicated all of her pieces to honor her father by including her new signature brand, the Ayres Rock (“Uluru”) that symbolizes her father’s Australian roots.
Currently, Tiya, recently invested in real estate property and built a brand-new construction addition (for Airbnb purposes) that features a modern guest suite with a mini bar and an art gallery (that's all in one). Some of Tiya's new artworks are hanging in the new Airbnb addition; Book Now and Stay Later! For more information, please visit www.tiyadk.com (click on the AirBnb section).
In addition, Tiya is also exploring the new digital art world of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT’s) and she has placed some of her original art as digital artwork (as a pilot) on OpenSea.io and other digital platforms. She is also working on private commissioned art pieces from various art collectors and clients.
Last, but not least, please be aware all artwork sales that make profit, a percentage will go toward various charities, including but not limited to nonprofits focused on gun violence, domestic violence, cancer awareness, and child welfare (especially foster care and adoption), and anything else that involves children’s growth, disabilities, and education.
